Renowned for its stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and highland allure, this Scottish spectacle is only surpassed by London’s Winter Wonderland and Manchester’s Christmas Markets.

Edinburgh is a breathtaking destination throughout the year, but it truly sparkles during the Christmas period. With its unique mix of medieval and Georgian architecture, iconic landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and beautifully preserved Georgian terraces in the New Town, it provides an incredible backdrop for awe-inspiring photos.

According to the Visit Scotland website, “Edinburgh at Christmas time is truly magical! Each year Edinburgh’s Christmas and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay come up with an exciting array of events to get everyone in the mood for the holiday season,”

Set to dazzle once again, Edinburgh promises a festive season unlike any other as 2024 approaches. The enchanting capital will host not one but three distinctive markets and a plethora of events sprawled across the city, including the UK’s largest illuminated Christmas Tree Maze.

Throngs of visitors are anticipated at East Princes Street Gardens, a free traditional Christmas Market nestled in the heart of historic Edinburgh. Boasting panoramic views of the iconic Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument, this market offers around 70 stalls brimming with handcrafted goods, unique gifts, and gastronomic delights from both local and global artisans.

The LNER Big Wheel stands as Scotland’s tallest Ferris wheel at a soaring 46 meters, offering breathtaking vistas of the cityscape. For those seeking thrills with a view, the Around the World Star Flyer is not to be missed.

Catering to families, West Princes Street Gardens transforms into an admission-free, fun-filled haven from Friday, November 15. Bursting with traditional funfair rides, seasonal refreshments, and cosy zones for sipping hot chocolate or mulled wine, it provides the perfect backdrop for festive cheer.

Adding to the merriment, the Ross Bandstand is set to feature a lively lineup of family entertainment with choirs, shows, and live performances all under the allure of the festive spirit.

As Edinburgh gears up for a Christmas spectacular filled with joyous wonder, George Street West and Castle Street await eager participants for an unrivalled festive experience.

Edinburgh’s festive season is set to sparkle with the return of its iconic Christmas market on George Street, featuring an ice rink where visitors can enjoy a fun-filled skating session. Afterwards, they can warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or a snack from the food stalls in the designated warming zone.

As part of the Hogmanay celebrations leading up to New Year’s Eve, a four-day extravaganza of world-class events will take over the city, commencing on 29 December with the beloved torchlight procession. This event will make its way through the historic Old Town for the first time since 2019.
