NOAA announces nearly $220 million for new transformational habitat restoration projects

On Thursday, July 18, NOAA Fisheries will share the 32 new transformational habitat restoration and coastal resilience projects recommended for funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. The nearly $220 million in funding will help facilitate projects that will have a transformative impact across the country — through capstone projects that build on decades of work in priority watersheds, innovative projects that implement cutting-edge restoration techniques, and groundbreaking efforts that restore habitat in urban ecosystems to benefit underserved communities. They will also help protect coastal communities and ecosystems from the impacts of climate change, and make significant strides in the recovery of threatened and endangered species.

Funds will be available to recipients in the following states and territories: Alaska, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and a multi-state project across Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
