My Chemical Romance sent their dedicated fans into a frenzy on Monday, November 11, 2024, when they posted a cryptic message on their social media accounts.

The legendary emo band dropped a stylised version of their logo in what looks like a Russian-adjacent font.

On top of that, they captioned the post: “if you could be anything what would you be?”

This is one of the first new interactions the band has bequeathed onto their fandom – however, it doesn’t give much away.

The fandom – known as the MCRmy – have been yearning for news for years. The Black Parade singers last released a new song, The Foundations of Decay, in 2022, just before their UK stadium gigs at Milton Keynes.

Since then, Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro have been silent in terms of new music. They have, however, been playing gigs around the world; most recently, the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas, USA.

With almost 17 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the hunger for new My Chemical Romance is there – but, if this new post is pointing towards something, what form will it take?

My Chemical Romance’s latest social media post could point towards a new album – however unlikely that may be.

The band have not released a full album since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Since then, leaks have been spotted online by fans of a now-cancelled album with the working title The Paper Kingdom.

Further theories suggest this could be the beginning of The Paper Kingdom being brought back from the dead. The social media image in question shows the tops of (paper) white buildings, and the initials are a Russian translation of the acronym TPK (The Paper Kingdom) backwards.

Speaking out about The Paper Kingdom back in 2014, frontman Way said: “So that My Chem record that didn’t get made it was really, not only was it really dark […] I was basically finding anything else to do besides write music […] it’s like, I cared what the songs were, but it’s like it’s gonna be a bunch of dark stuff and we’re going to build costumes and stage sets, and it’s going to be this storyline about a support group of parents who are dealing with the loss of their children so they make up this story about the children all being missing in the woods and fighting this witch and that that was what it was about.

“It was called The Paper Kingdom. And there may be a time in my life where I want to do The Paper Kingdom. And maybe it’s a book, or maybe it’s something else.”

Of course, My Chemical Romance fans will be hoping this potential album announcement will lead to a tour announcement.

The band have not gone on a full tour since the aforementioned 2022 string of shows across the Americas and UK.

Before that, they had toured the world a few times over with The Black Parade, Danger Days, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, and more.

At the time of writing, no official word has been given about the possibility of a My Chemical Romance tour.

With that said, if they were to make their live return, they would no doubt be filling stadiums, if 2022’s shows are anything to go by.

At the time, MCR sold out Milton Keynes Bowl three times. With a capacity of 65,000 attendees, that’s around 200,000 spots.

Considering Wembley Stadium’s capacity is around 90,000, they could easily fill out the country’s biggest and best-known stadium.

Otherwise, My Chemical Romance have played arenas – including London’s O2 Arena – multiple times, so they’ll certainly (at least) fill a few dates there.

Until we get an official announcement, however, we’ll have to wait and see what their announcement is.
