EDF launches new free electricity offer for April – how to sign up | Personal Finance | Finance
Energy giant EDF has extended a savings deal to offer free electricity on Sundays in April. The ‘Sunday Saver’ challenge gives eligible customers the chance to earn free electricity on Sundays by shifting their electricity use away from the weekday peak hours of 4pm to 7pm.
The more electricity customers shift, the more free electricity they can earn the following Sunday, with between four and 16 hours on offer. Throughout the challenges so far, customers have earned over six million free hours of electricity, worth over £1.4million. Rich Hughes, director of retail at EDF, said: “It’s great to see that so many customers are benefitting from the initiative, and we’re excited to give more customers the opportunity to do the things they love on a Sunday.”
Eligible customers must register before Sunday, April 6, at 11:59 p.m. to participate in the challenge, which will begin on Monday, April 7.
Customers must have a working smart meter for their electricity supply and be opted into half-hourly meter readings to be eligible.
The Sundays on which customers will be able to use their earned free electricity will be April 20 and April 27, and May 4 and May 11. Customers can find out more about the Sunday Saver challenge here and sign up for the challenge via MyAccount.
Customers can track the hours they have earned and view the credit they’ve accumulated through EDF’s Energy Hub on MyAccount.
To make the most of the Sunday Saver challenge, customers should shift certain activities away from peak times during the week. This could include running the dishwasher or washing machine at night or in the morning, unplugging devices when not in use, or charging electric cars outside of peak hours.
The more customers reduce their peak consumption, the more free electricity they can earn. Up to 16 hours are available per Sunday for those who reduce their energy use by 50%.
In addition to the Sunday Saver initiative, EDF is offering its Simply Fixed tariffs, with its cheapest offering a saving of £223 compared to the new price cap. The Simply Tracker Jun26 tariff also provides a guaranteed saving of £50 a year for dual fuel customers.
For customers looking to reduce their bills further, EDF’s Energy Hub offers a personalised view of household energy use. The company’s research has shown that customers using the hub can reduce their bills by up to £41 a year and lower their carbon footprint.
