Cook shares 10-minute hack for ‘perfect baked potatoes’ without oven

A jacket potato is the perfect hearty winter meal, but sometimes it can take far too long to cook.

Thankfully, you don’t have to impatiently wait by the oven for an hour for your potato to be perfectly cooked and fluffy with an easy hack.

This quick and innovative hack for making perfect baked potatoes has taken the internet by storm, thanks to food enthusiast Roice Bethel.

In a video posted on his TikTok account, @noflakeysalt, Roice demonstrated how to achieve a fluffy, fully cooked baked potato in just 10 minutes without using an oven.

“The right way to bake a potato,” he captioned the video.

“Baking a potato in the oven takes over an hour; doing it in the microwave takes 10 minutes. Try this method instead.”

The method is simple, start with a decent-sized potato and poke multiple holes in it.

According to Roice, this step is crucial for allowing the potato to release moisture, which helps it “absorb more butter.”

Next, place the potato on a microwave-safe plate and microwave it for five minutes.

Flip the potato over and microwave for an additional five minutes. When the potato develops wrinkles on the skin, it’s a sign that it’s ready.

In the video, Roice cut into the potato to reveal a perfectly cooked, fluffy interior, much to the delight of his followers.

The video had viewers thoroughly impressed,

“That is the best way,” commented one user, @shirley2502.

Another viewer, @therealphxfoodie, shared their experience: “I spent an hour baking a potato for dinner one night and it still wasn’t baked through. I swore to only microwave them from now on.”

However, some were less enthusiastic, noting that microwaving often results in a soggy potato skin.

To counter this, many suggested adding a step to crisp up the exterior.

Several TikTok users chimed in with their own tips to perfect the hack.

A popular suggestion was to finish the potato in an air fryer.

“I do five minutes in the microwave and finish in the air fryer to get crispy skin,” shared @jeffreythomas. Similarly, @mrs_198o recommended spraying the potato with oil and adding a sprinkle of salt before air-frying for 10 minutes after microwaving.

For those without an air fryer, another option is to place the potato under a broiler for a few minutes to achieve a similar effect.
