George RR Martin’s latest Winds of Winter news will relieve Game of Thrones fans | Books | Entertainment

This summer George RR Martin took a long trip to Europe, which he’s been sharing highlights of on his blog.

In the latest post, the 76-year-old wrote of Amsterdam and even included a commitment to The Winds of Winter, the latest Game of Thrones book he’s been writing for over a decade.

The author pointed out how the Dutch city inspired Braavos, the city in A Song of Ice and Fire that is home to the Iron Bank and Faceless Men.

During the blogging session, he confessed that one of the other scraped HBO Game of Thrones spin-offs was set there.

However, it turns out that Martin fully intends to write it at some point in the near future.

Martin wrote on his blog: “One of these days I need to write that story about Braavos we were developing for HBO. They shelved that one a couple of years back, alas, but that does not mean I won’t go back to it… after WINDS OF WINTER is done, of course. Maybe then I will have enough free time to visit Amsterdam again.”

Giving his commitment not to be sidetracked with other projects but to focus on the long-delayed novel will no doubt have fans breathing a sigh of relief for now.
